Teaching procedures :
Step 1: lead in(5mins)
Greet students and check the homework for last class.
(Justification: through this way, students' attention can be focused on today' class.)
Step 2: pre-reading(7mins)
Divide the whole class into several groups and and have a conversation with group members as to which sense they use most and then ask some students to show their answers to class.
(Justification: through this way, students' interest can be largely aroused and it can be a foundation for them to read the reading material.)
Step 3: while-reading(20mins)
⑴ Fast reading(5mins): read the story quickly and then answer the following questions:
a. What is the story about?
b. Where did Polly live?
c. Who helped Polly?
(Justification: students can develop their skill of skimming reading and getting the needed information in a fast way.)
⑵ Detailed reading(15mins): read the story again carefully and then answer the questions 1-6 in the book; and then put the events in the correct order with number 1-10 in the book.
(Justification: students can better understand the passage by answering these questions.)
Step 4: post-reading(10mins)
Have the class talk about other senses and how they help them in their life.
(Justification: through this way, students can know more about senses in our body and it can also open their eyes about how their body functions)
Step 5: summary and homework(3mins)
Summary: ask one students to sum up what they have learnt in the class.
Homework: write a composition on "how do you feel when you have cold?"
