请根据人民教育出版社《义务教育教科书(PEP)》(三年级起点)五年级上册Unit 1 What’s he like? Part A Let’s learn完成教学设计:

1.请根据教学内容确定本课时的教学目标。

2.请设计出presentation环节的教学步骤。

3.请设计出本课时的两个词汇练习活动(一个是词汇巩固操练活动,一个是词汇综合运用活动)。

1. Teaching aims:

Knowledge aims:

(1) Students will master the pronunciation, spelling and meanings of new words, like old, young, funny, kind and strict.

(2) Students will master the sentences “Who’s your ...?” and “Is he young/old/ funny...?”

Ability aims:

(1) Students will be able to identify and read the new words in new contexts.

(2) Students will be able to use news words to describe teachers’ appearance and characteristics

Emotional aims:

(1) Students will find strong interest and confidence in learning English.

(2) Students will improve their communication skills and strengthen their cooperative abilities.

2.Presentation

(1) The teacher presents the pictures of Mr Young and Mr Jones on PPT and asks students to pay attention to their hair. They can find that Mr Young has white hair and that Mr Jones has black hair. In this way, the teacher tells students that Mr Young is “old” and that Mr Jones is “young” and writes them on blackboard.

(2) The teacher shows another three pictures on PPT. Students find Miss Green blinks, Miss White smiles and Mr Li is serious. Then the teacher can show them the words to respectively describe three teachers “funny”, “kind” and “strict” and write them on blackboard.

(3) Ask students to pay attention to the dialogue between the two boys and lead them to read aloud in class. Then use the sentence structure: who is he? and is he... to ask students and help them understand the sentence structures.

3.Practice

(1) Play a game “Flash card”. The teacher needs to prepare five cards on which people have different expressions. When the teacher shows one card, students need to read the expression, speak out the corresponding word and spell the word together at the same time. The step goes for the other four words.

(2) Make a dialogue. Students will choose one of their teachers and cooperate with their desk mates to make a dialogue concerning the teachers’ appearance and personality. Students shall be told to use the new words and sentences in the dialogue. They will be given 6 minutes to finish the task and then some groups will be invited to share their work in the front. In the final, the teacher will give response to their performance.

Example:

Student A: Hello! Who is Mr Green?

Student B: He is the math teacher.

Student A: Is he young?

Student B: Yes, he is. And he is tall. He is strict.
